Official Launch of the Global Cooling Prize, Delhi, India
Participants were required to submit preliminary applications by June 2019 to indicate their initial interest in participating in the Global Cooling Prize.
Participants were required to submit a detailed technical application with specific details on their technology design and expected performance based on Prize Criteria.
The Technical Review Committee evaluated all the participant applications using the Supervisory Board approved evaluation criteria to select finalists.
Eight Finalists were announced at a formal ceremony in India and awarded US$200,000 each.
The finalists will be required to develop two working prototypes between November 2019 and August 2020.
The Finalists will then be required to ship one prototype to the lab of the India testing partners, CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India, for performance evaluation in a lab environment. The second prototype will be shipped to Delhi, India, for field testing in an apartment complex to evaluate its performance in real time for up to 60 day period. This prototype will be subsequently sent for ISEER testing.
The member organizations of the Operating Council, along with the Prize partners, will continue to provide resources, webinars, and other tools for engaging and supporting participants in collaboration with the Technical Review Committee and the Investment Committee.
Each Finalist team is required to deliver two working prototypes to testing facilities in India by August 22, 2020.
The India testing partners will test the performance of the prototypes in a simulated lab environment and provide the test results to the Technical Review Committee.
The India testing partners will also test the performance of the prototype in an existing apartment building and provide the test results to the Technical Review Committee for evaluation. The prototype will also be tested for its ISEER rating.
The Technical Review Committee will score all prototypes using the evaluation criteria, and the Supervisory Board will ratify the recommendations after ensuring the recommended selections meet the Prize Criteria.
On April 29, 2021, the Global Cooling Prize will be hosting a virtual Grand Award Ceremony. At the Award Ceremony, we will be announcing the winner(s) of the Global Cooling Prize and awarding the winning team(s) up to $1 Million to support the commercialization of their technology. The Ceremony will feature profiles on each Finalist team, videos of the Prize's journey, fireside conversations with coalition partners, and special remarks from influential leaders tuning in from around the world. The Ceremony will also highlight what comes next as we Race to Zero in the cooling sector in the lead up to COP26.
This event will serve as an opportunity to recognize the incredible achievements of the Prize participants and global coalition, while also highlighting the ceiling of performance for residential cooling, spurring policymakers, financiers, and industry to support the commercialization and scaling of breakthrough cooling technologies.
